Lack of ‘permeability’ cause of Maribyrnong floods

Recently residents of Maribyrnong have been hit with floods unmatched in over 50 years, multiple homes destroyed and lives ruined, I believe many factors went into this event and one things for sure is the government completely failed its people. The maps below show the extent of the floods and the areas effected.

Why do I say they failed? part of the governments job is to regulate building and planning, but they seem to have forgotten about an important part of our landscape here in Australia! PERMEABILITY! around this area, at higher sea levels than the river, have been numerous approvals for concrete mansions that leave no room on the block for water to seep into the ground, apartment blocks that dig in many stories deep that block the underground flow of water and also a wall around a flood plan that is being used as a racecourse.

The obvious corruption and sheer lack of foresight on behalf of our government should be enough to have them stripped of all entitlements and sent to prison, but this is Australia.. there is never accountability.

How can you argue with this photo?

Flemington racecourse

In the above you can clearly see the wall working, as it was supposed to, preventing mass amounts of water from getting in, this meant the water was unable to penetrate into the earth and was sent into peoples homes.

AGAIN!

Permeability is key and the government did not calculate it correctly.

There should be ramifications on all members on planning that have gone into the destructions of our permeable area, these people have lined their pockets and left future generations with problem too numerous to count

Flood effected houses

I hope things get better for all residents that are effected by this and hope now you know who is to blame.
