Lately we have seen a new career emerge, that of being a victim.
This wonderful career allows you to fabricate story’s like having cancer or being raped, the list of possibilities is huge and if anyone questions your delusions they must be a horrible person.
One of the more prominent professional victims is from right here in Melbourne, the founder of “The Whole Pantry”, Belle Gibson.
The TWP francize was founded on Gibson’s false claims that she had been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor and that she had been “winning the fight” against it in unconventional ways, on top of that all the money she promised for charity in her marketing campaigns went straight into her pocket, what a highly profitable career choice. Asif this wasn’t bad enough she went on a lying rampage during the rise of her francize claiming she had acquired multiple more cancers and had only months to live, after a while people started to question the legitimacy of these claims.
Gibson, who seemed mentally ill, was paid 45000$ last year to appear on 60 minutes with Tara Brown (which shows just how profitable this trade is). Tara gave her the opportunity during the interview to “apologize” and “clear things up” but all she managed to do was muddy the waters even more and play the victim. In the show she didn’t accept any of what she had done and couldn’t even give a clear answer to the simple question “how old are you?”. It became extremely apparent during this discussion she made the WHOLE thing up and led followers on a deluded journey dictated by her imagination.
(here is a link to some of the interview on 60 minutes)
After the truth emerged those involved with TWP went on an editing spree, essentially covering up the lies that started the company, deleting all posts made about Gibson’s false claims of cancer and even getting rid of numerous WHOLE pages on Facebook and Instagram. TWP still functions and draws in profits to this day, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Consumer Affairs Victoria, on May 6th 2016, announced it will be taking legal action toward Gibson and Inkerman Road Nominees PTY LTD.
So I guess Gibson’s career may be cut short! But it seems to have been fairly profitable.
This special type of crazy has become part of our culture, people fabricating story’s left right and center, why? Because they know they will get the sympathy vote, they know if they’re a victim it will help them achieve their goals.
Its more than just a career choice though and more than just fabricating story’s, it’s a mental illness. Dr. Nicola Davis, a noted psychologist, wrote an article on this ( https://healthpsychologyconsultancy.wordpress.com/2012/10/26/the-victim-personality/ ) where she covered the traits these people have.
